Memorial Day Weekend

Happy Friday folks! What’s everyone doing this weekend? We’re driving to Pennsylvania to visit my family and hopefully meet my cousin’s newborn baby – Stefania (so excited). And crossing our fingers for clear sky on Sunday as we’ll be attending our friend’s wedding..

Wishing you all a fun, long Memorial Day weekend!

Style/5

Edgy denim shirts are popping up everywhere in all sorts of styles, weights, and washes.  It is definitely a must have item for this Spring, if you haven’t snatched one yet. My favorite thing about denim shirts is that they are so versatile — they complement any color, they can be dressed up or down, they can be worn with shorts, pants, skirts, dresses, and they provide an effortlessly cool layer to any outfit.

Once you’ve found the denim shirt that’s right for you, you can play around with it to get the hang of how to wear it both casually and with more dressy pieces. Mine is from J.Crew and here are some of my favorite ways to wear it:

Roasted Chicken with Porcini and Fava Beans

While shopping for groceries, we spotted the first fava beans of the season and we simply couldn’t resist slinging a clutch into the shopping bag! Although they take a bit of work to prepare, fava beans are one of summer’s best treat, with their sweet and nutty flavor. Fava beans also add beautiful vibrant color to any dish, and so we decided to put a little twist on a classic chicken and mushrooms! The result was a great combination of flavors, textures and colors. Fresh, seasonal and healthy ingredients: what else could we wish for?

Fish Tacos

Every Saturday on the Williamsburg waterfront, over 100 vendors set up shops at Brooklyn’s flea food market selling just about everything you can imagine from fresh lobster rolls and fish tacos to hotdogs with asian inspired toppings and schnitzel sandwiches. It is by far our favorite place to spend our Saturday afternoon and what is so great about this market is that it is right across from our apartment.

As resident smorgasburgers, our Saturday ritual includes having coffee, brunch, and dessert from the market. Oftentimes when we try something we love, Tim cooks his own version of that dish. After we tried Choncho’s Tacos for the first time, he got down to business and made beer battered fish tacos for dinner. Click here for the recipe!
